NHL games and news

Their were many great games yesterday throughout the entire NHL. The Boston Bruins topped the Washington Capitals 3-0 and Tuukka Rask had his sixth shutout of the regular season. The last time these two teams met the Capitals beat the Bruins in their own building 4-2 so the Bruins redeemed themselves last night in the Boston Garden. The St. Louis Blues beat the Nashville Predators 2-1 and Ryan Miller is playing well in the net for his new team. The Dallas Stars blew out the struggling Vancouver Canucks 6-1. Tyler Seguin for the Dallas Stars had a 5 point night with 3 goals and 2 assists. The Colorado Avalanche beat the Detroit Red Wings in overtime in their own building 3-2. The Avalanches young fast team prevailed against experienced Red Wings. Andre Benoit scored the OT game winner with 32 seconds left in the period. Also yesterday Nicklas Lidstrom's Number 5 was retired for the Detroit Red Wings before their game against the Avalanche. Lidstrom was a fantastic hockey player who won the Norris trophy 7 times and also won 4 Stanley Cup's with Detroit.

Their have been a lot of controversial trades before the trade deadline. The long time Tampa Bay Lightning Martin St. Louis who was also the captain was traded to the New York Rangers. The captain of the Rangers Ryan Callahan was traded to the Lightning along with a 1st and 2nd round draft picks. The Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo was traded to the Florida Panthers and is now the starting goaltender and Tim Thomas is now his back up. Thomas Vanek was traded to the Montreal Canadiens which should help the Habs in the post season. Steven Stamkos was named the captain of the Tampa Bay Lightning because of the trade of Martin St. Louis.
